In a striking departure from traditional anniversary celebrations, leading commercial law firm Babalakin & Co. is commemorating its 37th year of legal practice with a public celebration of Nigerian art. The firm will host its inaugural Art Exhibition and Prize Giving Ceremony on July 1, 2025, at its Lagos office, spotlighting the work of emerging artists from across the country.

The exhibition is part of the firm’s broader Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) efforts and is designed to provide visibility and support for young creatives in the fields of painting, drawing, and sculpture. Out of over 250 submissions received nationwide, 26 finalists have been selected to showcase their works at the event.

“This is about more than just art—it’s about empowering the next generation and integrating creative expression into the broader narrative of national development,” the firm said in a statement.

Winners will be announced at the ceremony, with ₦5 million going to the overall winner. The second- and third-place entries will receive ₦2.5 million and ₦1.5 million, respectively, while a ₦1 million People’s Choice Award will also be presented based on public voting.

The selection process was overseen by a distinguished panel of judges, including artist Sehinde Odimayo, painter Duke Asidere, business executive Dotun Sulaiman, and investor Kola Aina. Their combined expertise helped ensure a credible and rigorous judging process.

Babalakin & Co., known for its role in major commercial transactions and legal reform, has consistently invested in educational and social development initiatives. The art exhibition, according to the firm, reflects a growing desire to bridge the worlds of professionalism and creativity. The event is expected to become a permanent fixture in the firm’s annual calendar, signalling a long-term commitment to supporting Nigeria’s cultural sector.

By blending its legal legacy with artistic innovation, Babalakin & Co. is using its milestone anniversary not just to look back, but to invest in the future.
