The Chartered Institute of Bankers of Nigeria (CIBN), on Saturday led banking professionals on a wellness walk aimed at promoting physical health, mental well-being, and enhanced service delivery within the financial sector.

The five-kilometre walk, themed “Building Healthier Professionals,” brought together bankers and stakeholders from across the industry, who converged at UBA House, Marina, and trekked through Apongbon, Eko Bridge, and Costain before ending the walk at the National Stadium, Surulere.

Speaking at the event, Pius Olanrewaju, CIBN President, emphasised the role of physical activity in improving cardiovascular health, cognitive function, and overall productivity. He described the walk as a reminder of the need to prioritise wellness in a high-pressure profession like banking.

“This initiative promotes not just fitness, but community, reconnection, and support. It brought joy and relief, even to those facing mental stress, and reminded us of the power of unity and rhythm,” Olanrewaju said.

He commended the Lagos Branch for championing the initiative and encouraged the extension of wellness activities beyond an annual event, noting their potential to foster sustained well-being and stronger professional relationships.

Adeyemo Adeoye, chairman of the Lagos Branch of CIBN, also praised the participation and enthusiasm shown by the banking community. He noted that the walk served as a platform for professional networking, synergy, and renewed commitment to delivering quality service.

“Efficiency in customer service requires not just skill, but mental, physical, and emotional energy. That’s what wellness initiatives like this help us maintain,” Adeoye said, highlighting the industry’s broader commitment to social impact.

The event also featured support from allied organisations, traffic control officials, and the police, all of whom joined the walk in branded jerseys to symbolise unity and a shared dedication to health and service excellence.
