Presidency commends NEDC, asks Nigerians to invest in Borno

The Federal Government has commended the North-East Development Commission (NEDC) for its giant strides taken to enhance and reposition the livelihood of vulnerable in the post- insurgency recovery scenario in the region.

Abubakar Momoh, the Minister of Regional Development canvased that Nigerians should to invest in Borno State, noting that the State is as peaceful as any other States in the country.

Abubakar stated on Tuesday while responding to questions from newsmen shortly after an inspection to some developmental projects sites executed by the Commission in Jere, Mafa and Maiduguri Councils’ Areas of the State.

Abubakar noted that the region had witnessed massive destruction as a result of 15 years insurgency conflicts, noting that the Commission upholds its core mandates by repositioning and rebuilding the ruins of the affected infrastructures and communities in the North-East.

He said, “We have gone to various projects sites, the commission has built 1,000 housing for the returnees with basic amenities. Aside this, we have gone to massive road construction and this is to tell you that NEDC has performed extremely well. They have executed laudable projects across the six-state from humans capital development, post-insurgency recovery, education, reconstruction and many more.”

The Minister commended Governor Babagana Zulum for his investment in security of lives and infrastructures, while mentioning that many people he told about coming to Borno thought he was visiting a war zone area

Earlier, Governor Babagana Zulum of Borno State, who was represented by his Deputy, Usman Kadafur, commended the Federal Government’s support through the NEDC to the State’s post-insurgency recovery process.

“Borno State Government has benefited a lot through from the Federal Government through the North-East Development Commission under the leadership of our own Muhammad Goni Alkali, particularly in our efforts to address health concerns, infrastructural deficit and others. They have done so well for our people”, he noted.
