The Allied Peoples Movement (APM) in Osun State has criticised former Osun State Governor Rauf Aregbesola for pushing for good governance after what it called his poor governance record during his Administration in the State.

Adewale Adebayo, the Osun State APM Chairman, in a statement made available to newsmen on Sunday, accused Aregbesola of leading Osun into economic failure during his eight-year tenure as governor, and questioned his moral authority to now champion a coalition, calling for good governance.

The party which rejected the coalition in its entirety, raised concern over the antecedents of those championing the course and the leadership of the movement.

Adebayo said the most troubling aspect of the emerging coalition is Aregbesola’s prominent role, despite having, according to him, built his entire political life on public funds while failing to deliver quality governance when in office.

Adebayo said, “the most worrisome to us(APM) is the secretary of the self-seeking coalition, Rauf Aregbesola who had lived best part of his life in government and tax payer money was used to sort his personal life bills, he served as commissioner, governor(8years) and Minister (4years) and the most annoying thing is that he served under All Progressives Congress(APC).”

The APM Chairman alleged that Aregbesola’s tenure left Osun State with over N500 billion in debt, unpaid salaries for civil servants for 18 months, and mismanaged funds, despite receiving bailout packages from the former president Muhammadu Buhari led Federal Government.

Adebayo also pointed to Aregbesola’s education policies, particularly the construction of 11 mega schools which reportedly cost the state over N16 billion but have since fallen into disrepair as well as failing to remit workers’ pension contributions to their retirement savings accounts.

“It is absurd for someone who failed to deliver good governance as a governor to now start a crusade against his primary home. On this note, we are rejecting coalition in Osun State and we also urge Nigeria not to join the crusade of failed politicians but join Allied Peoples Movement(APM) for the betterment of our state and country,” he stated.
