Rotimi Amaechi, former minister of transportation and ex-governor of Rivers State, has announced his resignation from the All Progressives Congress (APC), declaring that Nigeria is “completely destroyed” and in dire need of a total overhaul.
Amaechi made the announcement on Wednesday in Abuja during the unveiling of the interim executive of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), where he strongly criticised both the ruling party and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
He accused the APC and INEC of working together to hijack upcoming elections, adding that the country’s economy has worsened to the point where citizens can no longer afford basic food items.

“Nigeria is completely destroyed. People can’t eat, there’s no money to buy food, everything is gone, Inflation is at its peak.”
“The federal government is busy going around trying to hijack the election, and INEC is helping them,” Amaechi said.
He confirmed that he formally left the APC on Tuesday night and had repeatedly warned the party not to invite him to meetings. “I was surprised I wasn’t expelled. I told them in writing, ‘Don’t invite me to any meeting.’
“You can’t be in a club where the majority of people are stealing and you don’t say anything,” Amaechi stated.
On why he is not supporting President Bola Tinubu’s administration, Amaechi said he never believed Tinubu was fit to lead the country.

According to him, the worsening state of the economy has led some Nigerians to wish for the return of former President Muhammadu Buhari.
“People want Buhari to come back because during Buhari’s time, a dollar was about ₦460. Now, it’s ₦1,580, that’s more than 100 percent increase,” he said.
Amaechi dismissed claims that he is being overambitious, insisting that he has the right to be ambitious.”
He called for the creation of a citizen-led movement, rather than just another political party, to take back control of Nigeria’s leadership.
