Super Falcons head coach Justine Madugu has assured fans that his team is still a work in progress, despite securing a convincing 3-1 victory over Ghana’s Black Queens in an international friendly held at the Ziaida Palace Benslimane field in Casablanca.
Goals from Chinwendu Ihezuo, Asisat Oshoala, and captain Rasheedat Ajibade sealed the win for the Super Falcons, marking yet another strong performance under Madugu’s leadership.
Reacting to the result, Madugu said the match offered a valuable opportunity to evaluate the team’s readiness and chemistry ahead of their opening game at the 2025 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON).
“The match gave us the opportunity of having the full squad together to really assess our strength as a team and build on team cohesion, coordination, and various combinations,” Madugu stated.
“It will always be a work in progress, but we are very focused on our realisable and achievable target of Mission X. The girls are ready and are showing real hunger for victory. Team spirit is high, and we are looking forward to our first match on Sunday against Tunisia.”
The win against Ghana extended Madugu’s impressive record in charge of the Super Falcons. Under his guidance, Nigeria cruised past Ethiopia and Cape Verde to qualify for the Olympics and the 13th Women’s AFCON.
“We will continue to work on our weak areas, and I believe that by the time of our first match, we will be ready,” Madugu added.
In 2024, the Falcons, under Madugu’s leadership, defeated Algeria in two friendlies and Lagos, and narrowly lost to European heavyweights France in Le Mans.
In 2025, the Super Falcons defeated Cameroon 2-0 in Douala and earned a hard-fought 0-0 draw against Portugal last week in Lisbon.
