Arsenal have reportedly cooled their interest in Nigerian striker Victor Osimhen and are now targeting Sporting CP’s Viktor Gyökeres as their primary summer transfer target.

Osimhen, the 26-year-old Napoli striker currently on a season-long loan at Turkish club Galatasaray, had been heavily linked with a move to Arsenal following his impressive performances in Serie A. However, the Gunners have been unable to meet his release clause, prompting them to explore alternative options.

According to transfer expert David Ornstein of The Athletic, Arsenal now prefer to sign Gyökeres over Osimhen or Alexander Isak.

The club will push for a deal in the summer, with newly appointed sporting director Andrea Berta playing a key role. Berta is known to be a big admirer of the Swedish striker, and his influence could help drive the transfer.

“Arsenal are developing a strong interest in Viktor Gyökeres as a potential striker signing. Andrea Berta is a firm admirer of the 26-year-old #SportingCP forward, and he is expected to feature prominently among #AFC’s options. Gyökeres may also be a more realistic target than Isak,” Ornstein posted on his X account.

Gyökeres’ performance at Sporting CP has been impressive, suggesting he could thrive in the Premier League. Sporting CP are expected to demand around €75 million for the striker.

Arsenal, however, will face competition from Manchester United, Chelsea, and Liverpool, who are also monitoring Gyökeres.

Regardless of Arsenal’s decision, Osimhen remains a highly sought-after striker, and another top European club is likely to secure his signature this summer.
