The expanded 2025 FIFA Club World Cup in the U.S has concluded its group stage, setting the stage for two weeks of intense football in the round of 16.

The tournament, which grew from seven to 32 teams, has sparked concerns over soaring temperatures and low fan attendance.

Yet, with 48 matches played and 144 goals scored, including Bayern Munich’s record-breaking 10-0 demolition of Auckland City, the excitement has been top-notch.

The tournament has seen both dominant displays of European dominance largely held firm, with only three of the 12 participating clubs from Europe, Porto, Atlético Madrid, and Red Bull Salzburg, failing to advance to the next round.

It is interesting to also note that no African team reached the round of 16, while Saudi Arabian club Al-Hilal is the only Asian club in the knockout stage. South American giants and North American contenders also remain in the hunt for glory.
