Nyesom Wike, Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), has said that extensive measures are being developed to reform the nation’s capital transportation system to enhance the safety of public transit services.

Wike made this known on Friday in Abuja during an inspection of the newly completed Kugbo and Mabushi Bus and Taxi Terminals, which are scheduled for inauguration as part of events to commemorate President Bola Tinubu’s second year in Office.

He noted that a Committee had already been set up to implement the planned reforms, expected to be finalised before the formal inauguration of the bus and taxi terminals.

According to him, “A lot of changes are coming to the FCT’s transport sector,” he said. “As part of our security strategy, we need to have a clear system in place, knowing who operates in the taxi business and assigning uniform vehicle colors to aid identification in case of any incidents.”

He assured residents that the FCT Administration is committed to strengthening the transportation system and enhancing public safety.

Wike also noted that efforts were underway to eliminate numerous roadside motor parks across the city as part of the broader reorganisation.

The Minister also toured the newly completed access road to Giri District, which is similarly ready for inauguration.

Wike emphasised that significant reforms are underway, noting that substantial changes would soon take place in the FCT’s transportation sector.

On the quality of the projects inspected, the Miinister expressed satisfaction with the overall execution. However, he noted that he had identified a few areas that would require adjustments and had directed that they be addressed promptly.

He commended the contractor for a job well-done and reaffirmed his commitment to supporting local contractors who deliver quality work that benefits Nigerians.

The Three terminals, Kugbo, Mabushi, and Central Area Bus and Taxi Terminals were developed as part of a broader initiative to enhance public transportation in the FCT.

While the Kugbo and Mabushi terminals are completed and ready for inauguration, the Central Area terminal is still under construction.

Wike also declared that plans to construct two additional terminals, one each in Bwari and Gwagwalada—to expand the transport network across the territory.
