American NFL player Calvin Anderson and his wife, Sheree Lanihun-Anderson, have officially launched JB5 Investments Nigeria, a real estate venture aimed at reshaping the future of housing in West Africa.
JB5 positions itself as a mission-driven enterprise committed to raising the bar on how homes are built, lived in, and experienced in Nigeria. With a “community-first” ethos and a commitment to global best practices, the company is starting operations in Lagos, with eyes set on national expansion.
“We believe Nigeria is the next frontier,” says Calvin. “It has untapped potential, and we are proud to invest in its future not just financially, but structurally and socially.”
That belief has translated into the establishment of JB5 Investments Nigeria at a time when the country’s urban population is projected to surpass 65 percent by 2050.
The looming housing crisis, particularly for Nigeria’s expanding middle class, presents both a challenge and an opportunity. JB5 aims to fill this gap, offering homes that are not only aesthetically pleasing but also safe, functional, and deeply thoughtful in design.
What sets JB5 apart, according to Sheree Lanihun-Anderson, a Cambridge-trained real estate lawyer and former executive at global property fund Akelius, is their philosophy: “Real estate isn’t just about buildings; it’s about improving lives.”
This commitment is evident in the thoughtful innovations integrated into every JB5 home, features often overlooked in the Nigerian market. For example, advanced water filtration systems are directly integrated into showers, ensuring residents have access to clean, skin-safe water.
The founders added that, prioritising safety, homes come equipped with non-slip tiles on staircases and high-traffic areas, proactively minimising preventable accidents and offering peace of mind for families.
“Durability meets design as JB5 utilises only top-grade aluminium for windows and fixtures, promising longevity, energy efficiency, and a sleek, modern design built to withstand Nigeria’s climate. Furthermore, every aspect of JB5 homes reflects human-centred design, from natural ventilation to optimal lighting and smart spatial planning, meticulously designed to align with the realities of modern and healthy everyday living,” they said.
“We’re not here to flip homes and exit,” said Sheree. “We’re here to build a legacy, brick by brick, home by home. We want every Nigerian family living in a JB5 property to feel seen, safe, and proud.”
The leadership team behind JB5 Investments Nigeria combines diverse expertise. Calvin Anderson, a mathematical economics graduate from Rice University, brings rigorous financial modelling to guide long-term investment growth, while Sheree spearheads acquisition and development. Leading local operations is Tunji Lanihun, a household name in Southwest Nigeria’s business scene and a founding member of the famed Lanihun Brothers of Ibadan.
“My daughter has always been brilliant and purposeful,” said Tunji Lanihun, beaming with pride. “With Calvin, she’s building something deeply rooted in values, and I’m honoured to lead JB5’s impact here in Nigeria.”
Despite economic volatility, Nigeria’s real estate sector remains ripe for long-term value creation. However, the market has often been plagued by developers cutting corners or failing to meet international standards. JB5 aims to disrupt this by blending Western construction methods, rigorous safety standards, and deep cultural sensitivity.
“Our goal isn’t just to sell homes, it’s to build places people are proud to live in. This is legacy work.” Sheree said.
“With a focus on providing clean water, thoughtful design, durability, and safety, JB5 homes are being created with families, communities, and future generations firmly in mind,” she added.
