Arsenal are reportedly closing in on the signing of Sweden international Viktor Gyokeres from Sporting CP in a deal worth £70 million, as the Gunners begin plans to boost their attacking options ahead of the 2025/26 season.
According to reports, Arsenal have made Gyokeres, 27, a top priority and are now advancing talks over personal terms and a transfer fee, with sporting director Andrea Berta leading negotiations. While a deal is not yet finalised, progress has been described as significant.
The Gunners, who recently completed the £60 million signing of midfielder Martin Zubimendi from Real Sociedad, are keen to follow up with a proven goalscorer as part of a major summer rebuild.
Gyokeres has drawn interest from several Premier League clubs after a prolific spell in Portugal, where he has scored an astonishing 97 goals in 102 matches over two seasons with Sporting.
Gyokeres began his career in Sweden with IF Brommapojkarna before signing for Brighton & Hove Albion in 2017. Despite making his international debut in 2019, first-team opportunities at Brighton were limited, leading to loan spells at St Pauli, Swansea City, and Coventry City—where he eventually signed permanently and impressed in the Championship.
Sporting signed him in 2023, where his goal-scoring exploits quickly turned him into one of Europe’s most sought-after strikers.
While optimism surrounds the deal, Arsenal are proceeding cautiously until final agreements are reached with both the player and Sporting. However, the move is viewed as a major step forward in Arsenal’s summer transfer strategy, with Gyokeres seen as the long-term solution to their centre-forward needs.
