President Bola Tinubu has assured Nigerians that the newly launched Abuja Bus Terminal will ease traffic and strengthen security in the capital, while also helping to curb the threat of ‘one chance’ incidents.
Tinubu stated this while commissioning the Kugbo Bus and International Taxi terminal on Friday in Abuja.
Represented by Senate President Godswill Akpabio, President Tinubu noted that on Tuesday, June 17, 2025, the Mabushi Terminal, described as the first of its kind in the nation’s capital and possibly in the entire country, was commissioned at the Mabushi District.
The president said the renewal agenda of this administration is centred on a solemn promise to rebuild and revitalise the nation’s infrastructure, improve the lives of Nigerians, and create an environment where security and efficiency become the norm. These commitments are being fulfilled one significant step at a time.
According to him, “It is clear that the Mabuchi and Kugbo International Bus Terminals align with global practices and principles of sustainable urban development in transportation. They effectively eliminate the chaotic public transportation challenges that previously plagued the capital city.
“These terminals support the development goals of transit-oriented cities by promoting smart mobility, compact living spaces, parking management, and by gaining the support of stakeholders and citizens, ultimately transforming lives.
“The advanced security features, including comprehensive CCTV surveillance, ensure that commuters’ journeys begin and end in a secure environment.
The government has listened to the concerns and fears of the people and taken action. With public cooperation, the dangerous practice of roadside boarding and alighting will be a thing of the past.”
He described the Kugbo Bus Terminal, along with the Mabushi Terminal and other planned terminals at locations such as Eagle Square in the Central Business District, as key contributors to the government’s efforts to improve connectivity.
This meticulously planned transportation hub will generate numerous jobs across various sectors. It will boost trade, bring orderliness, enhance safety, and provide comfort to commuters.
The president commended Nyesom Wike and his team at the FCTA for their effective and efficient use of scarce public resources in initiating and completing this iconic public transportation infrastructure within record time, a feat that has made both the government and the people proud.
