Farmers under the auspices of the Community Allied Farmers Association of Nigeria (COMAFAS) have called on the Federal Government to revive “Cassava Flour Initiative” to boost the economy.
Austin Maduka, president, COMAFAS, stated that the implementation of the initiative, which was a major policy of the former President Olusegun Obasanjo-led administration can inject a whopping ₦255 billion into Nigeria’s economy annually.
He emphasised that implementation of the policy, would increase earnings of farmers and rural communities, create jobs, enhance food security, promote local production and encourage mechanized farming and agritech innovation.
According to Maduka, by incorporating 10-20% high-quality cassava flour (HQCF) into composite flour for bread production, Nigeria can tap into the vast potential of cassava and reduce wheat imports.
