Ibadan has been plunged into grief with the death of Oba Akinloye Owolabi Olakulehin, Ige Olakulehin I, Olubadan of Ibadanland, who died on Monday, just one year after ascending to the throne as the 43rd Olubadan.
According to Voice of Nigeria, the monarch, who rose to the throne in July 2024, died early on Monday, July 7, 2025, after one year in power.
On July 12, 2024, Oba Olakulehin accepted the staff of office from Governor of Oyo State, Seyi Makinde, becoming the 43rd Olubadan of Ibadanland.
The news of his death has caused deep sorrow in the Ibadan community and beyond.

According to palace sources, Oba Olakulehin died during a period when he was actively involved in the kingdom’s affairs, making a substantial contribution to the advancement of Yoruba cultural heritage and traditions.
The late monarch will be remembered for his exceptional leadership and wisdom, which earned him the respect and adoration of his subjects and the larger community.
Oba Olakulehin was born on July 5, 1935, and died barely two days after celebrating his 90th birthday.
