Nigerian gospel artist Mike Abdul is set to release a new song that blends Fuji music with gospel. The song, titled “Fuji Rush,” will be launched on June 20. It mixes modern string and horn sounds with Fuji’s usual percussion beats. This creates a fresh African gospel sound that celebrates faith with an upbeat rhythm.
Abdul, known for hits like “Korede” and “30 Billion Halleluyah,” says the song is part of his mission to bring the church to the streets. “If you can carry your body in praise, carry it with Fuji Rush,” he explains. The song aims to connect with listeners in Nigeria and around the world. It follows months of work by Abdul to craft a sound that feels both local and global.
For over 20 years, Abdul has shaped Nigerian gospel music. He started with the group Midnight Crew and later went solo. His style, called AfroGospel, mixes gospel messages with African rhythms like Fuji, Highlife, and Apala. Songs like “Igwe” tell stories about everyday life, making them relatable to young Nigerians. His work has helped gospel music reach beyond churches.
“Fuji Rush” builds on this approach. Abdul added modern strings and horns to Fuji’s traditional beats to give it a new twist. He says his ideas come from spiritual guidance. “I step out of the way when God is trying to pass a message through me,” he says. “When I follow that leading, the result is always amazing.”
Fans can hear “Fuji Rush” on radio and streaming platforms starting June 20. It’s another step in Abdul’s journey to spread gospel music through African sounds.
